The Purpose of Psychotherapy
The purpose of psychotherapy is to assist clients in reassessing how they experience their past and present, so that they can resolve internal conflicts, let go of destructive patterns and allow themselves to engage with others in more productive ways (Lapworth and Sills, 2010).
By making sense of our past and present experiences and becoming aware of our motivations, learned patterns, behaviours, defences, and integrating different aspects of our personality, we can achieve more adaptive ways of being and interacting with others and the world.
